Backstory: A Partnership Built on Trust and Innovation
In November 2018, I, Jason Skipper (Skipper Innovations), began working with Miller Piano Specialists. At the time, the business was owned by Ross and Sylvia Miller, who had built a reputation as Middle Tennessee’s premier piano dealership. They had worked closely for over 20 years with a close collaborator of mine, John Haggard of Revenue Developers, managing their advertising and marketing efforts.
While Miller Piano Specialists had an outstanding reputation, their website didn’t reflect the same level of quality and expertise. Recognizing the need for a digital transformation, John brought me in to modernize their website and online strategy.
The Initial Challenge
When we first took over the website, it was slow, outdated, and poorly optimized for mobile users. While functional, the design lacked modern UX/UI principles, making it difficult to navigate and engage with. On top of that, it was hosted on an unreliable, slow-performing server, further contributing to frustrating load times.
UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface) are two key aspects of digital design. UX focuses on the overall feel and functionality of a website, ensuring it's intuitive and enjoyable to use. UI deals with the visual elements users interact with, like buttons, menus, and layouts. Together, they create a seamless, user-friendly digital experience.
However, because significant investments had already been made in the existing website, a complete rebuild wasn’t the immediate priority. Instead, our approach was to optimize, refine, and enhance rather than start from scratch.
Initial Optimization Strategy
To improve performance and reliability right away, we migrated their site to high-performance cloud hosting, eliminating the instability of their previous setup. Then, we implemented targeted improvements:
- Performance Optimization - Streamlined code, optimized images, and improved caching for faster load times
- Mobile Responsiveness - Adjusted layouts and interactions for a better mobile experience
- SEO Strategy - Developed and implemented on-page SEO best practices to boost organic visibility
- Content Updates - Reworked existing pages with more engaging, keyword-optimized content
- Paid Advertising Strategy - Launched targeted Google Ads and Facebook campaigns to generate more qualified leads
This first phase focused on maximizing their existing website investment while laying the groundwork for long-term digital success.
Content and Website Rebuild: The Turning Point
While our organic traffic growth didn’t spike immediately, the early years saw a massive increase in paid traffic and web leads. By strategically managing Google and Facebook ad campaigns, we drove a steady flow of qualified leads, increasing sales and engagement. This period was critical in sustaining business growth while we laid the foundation for long-term organic search visibility.
SEO Content Strategy and Website Rebuild
Although initial site optimizations helped, the real shift happened when we invested in high-quality content and built a new website in January 2021. This custom WordPress theme provided:
- High Performance: Optimized for speed and user engagement
- Mobile-First Design: Ensuring seamless experiences across all devices
- Enhanced Customer Engagement: Strategic placement of CTAs and contact options
- Content Strategy: A structured approach to weekly SEO-optimized content
- Brand Alignment: A design that reflected their premium market position
Once we had a solid content strategy in place, the results spoke for themselves. By August 2023, organic traffic had increased by 674%, jumping from 825 to 6,386 monthly sessions.
Our strategy combined short-term paid traffic growth with long-term organic content scaling, ensuring Miller Piano Specialists continued to thrive in an increasingly digital landscape.

New Ownership, New Vision
In 2023, Miller Piano Specialists transitioned to new ownership under Travis Mitchell, bringing a fresh perspective and new business goals. While maintaining the company’s legacy as Middle Tennessee’s premier piano dealership, Travis envisioned a more streamlined, customer-focused, and technology-driven approach.
With this transition came a relocation to a new showroom, reflecting their evolution and expanding their capabilities. Their primary focus was on increasing leads, enhancing the customer experience, and embracing e-commerce—with the goal of eventually offering nationwide shipping.
The Best Piano Shopping Experience in the U.S.
In February 2025, we launched what we believe is the best online piano shopping experience in the United States. The Miller Piano Specialists e-commerce platform combines real-time inventory management, advanced filtering, and custom product badges to create a seamless, transparent, and efficient shopping process.
Intelligent Badge System: Clarity & Confidence for Shoppers
A standout feature of this platform is the automated badge system, dynamically controlled via Zoho Inventory, providing instant clarity on product details, availability, and special offers. These badges include:
- Warranty Information - Displays manufacturer warranties (10-year in-home, 3-year carry-in)
- Matching Bench - Indicates when a matching bench is included with the piano
- Availability Status - Shows “Available in Store,” “Available for Delivery,” or “Coming Soon”
- Same-Day Local Delivery - Available for digital pianos ordered before 2:00 PM
- Free Local Delivery - Highlights limited-time delivery promotions
- Countdown Timers - Shows real-time deadlines for same-day delivery and promotions
Zoho Inventory is a cloud-based inventory management system that helps businesses track stock levels, orders, and sales in real-time. It integrates with e-commerce platforms to automate inventory updates and prevent overselling.
