WordPress Basics & Backend Setup

Okay, let’s get started! We have our Domain Name, and we have installed WordPress on our Server… NOW we can start building that amazing website. In this video, we will begin that process.

Basic Overview of WordPress

Log in and create a username and password… DO NOT forget these!

If and when you log out, you can log in once again by going to https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin and logging in from there.

Plugins

  • Activate all installed plugins:
  • Install Extras (Church Theme Content):
    • Update any necessary plugins.
  • Install Other Needed Plugins:
    • Current Year and Copyright Shortcodes.
    • Encrypt Email.
    • EWWW Image Optimizer.
  • NOTE: If you want to put your website in maintenance mode so no one else can see it until it’s finished, download, activate, and configure the “Maintenance” plugin by “fruitfulcode.” You can find it in the Add Plugins menu.

Theme

  • Activate the Knapstack Theme.
  • Overview of the Knapstack Theme:
    • Look at a demo site already built:
      • We’re going to build this site. Why? Because this is how you’ll learn, and once you’ve figured it out, you’re free to create anything.
    • Explanation of features:
      • How Knapstack works.
      • How Customizer works.
      • Full screen vs. mobile view.

Pages

Create the following PAGES and a STACK for each:

  • Home
  • About
  • Blog
  • Connect
  • Giving
  • What to Expect

Create the following page with no stack:

  • Privacy Policy

Stacks

Create the following extra stacks to use further on:

  • Footer
  • Sidebar1
  • Sidebar2
  • Sidebar3
